Recently, the Haikou Meilan Airport HES Aircraft Engine Maintenance Engineering Co., Ltd. (referred to as HES), a company from Haikou Comprehensive Bonded Zone, has undertaken the first QuickTurn maintenance project for a GEnx-1B engine entrusted by a third-party customer. This marks a solid step in Haikou's strategic layout within the international wide-body engine maintenance market, while also injecting new momentum into the development of the aviation maintenance industry in the Hainan Free Trade Port.
The business HES secured this time involves the maintenance of a China Southern Airlines customer engine, subcontracted by GE Aerospace. Supported by the highest level of service agreement authorization granted by GE, HES has become a globally authorized service provider for GEnx-1B engines and a critical node within GE's worldwide open-access MRO (Maintenance, Repair, Overhaul) network. This project also represents HES's first engine maintenance order from an airline based in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It pioneers a new chapter of complementary collaboration in the aviation maintenance supply chains between the two regions, further promoting industrial interaction and integrated development between the Hainan Free Trade Port and the Greater Bay Area.
The smooth advancement of this project has been supported by dual drivers: policy and technology. Located within the Haikou Airport Comprehensive Bonded Zone, HES can benefit from multiple preferential policies of the FTP, such as bonded processing of aviation parts and bonded maintenance. This enables the company to provide cost-effective engine repair services, effectively reducing maintenance costs for customers. In terms of technical capability, HES has maintained close cooperation with GE's global experts since its establishment, scientifically planning its facility layout, introducing globally advanced maintenance equipment, and utilizing GE's core expert resources for specialized capability training and process optimization drills.
As the only enterprise in China authorized with the highest-level GBSA, HES will continue advancing new capability development, optimizing the entire process of engine maintenance, and enhancing service quality and production capacity. Through its first-class technical teams, the company aims to deliver high-quality and customized aircraft engine maintenance services to global clients. By synergizing with the Hainan FTP One-stop Aircraft Maintenance Base, it aims to strengthen global engine maintenance network and domestic industrial chain. Meanwhile, leveraging the institutional innovations of the Hainan FTP, the Haikou Airport Comprehensive Bonded Zone has established a 7x24 service response mechanism, providing streamlined approvals and expedited customs clearance tailored for aviation engine maintenance. These measures optimize the business environment, enhance regulatory efficiency and service levels to better support enterprises.
Looking ahead, the zone will deepen its "zero-distance service" philosophy, drive digital transformation in the aviation maintenance industry, and establish a "one-stop" international aviation maintenance service center, further propelling Hainan Free Trade Port to become a global aviation maintenance hub.
