On 25 April, a round table meeting of the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED) was held in Haikou, Hainan Province, centering on the theme of "Empowering Hainan's Beauty through the Blue Economy."
Giving play to its international intellectual resources, the meeting represented a crucial action by the CCICED in supporting regional green, low-carbon development. Delegates engaged in discussions on topics such as the sustainable blue economy's role in achieving carbon peaking and neutrality, challenges and innovations in climate-resilient architecture in coastal cities, implementing the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, and conserving marine biodiversity. More than 200 people attended the meeting, including Chinese and foreign members of CCICED, special advisers, cooperation partners, Chinese and foreign experts, and representatives from Hainan’s relevant government departments.
Hainan is the location of China's National Eco-Civilization Pilot Zone and a low-carbon demonstration province. As such, it puts the ecology at the forefront of its construction efforts, making positive strides in eco-civilization construction in recent years. China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment and the CCICED have expressed their willingness to continue supporting Hainan in accelerating its green, low-carbon transformation and development, its continued efforts to improve the quality of its ecological environment, and its determination to build a green, low-carbon free trade port with a top-notch ecological environment.
