The ASEAN economy has grown steadily in recent years, developing into one of the globe's most economically dynamic regions. This confers great advantages in the development of clean energy. China and ASEAN have achieved fruitful results thanks to long-term cooperation in a wide variety of fields.

Hainan is an important economic and trade hub for cooperation between China and ASEAN countries, and is rapidly developing into a free trade port, a national ecological civilization pilot zone, and a clean energy island.

At the event, information was shared on the Hainan Free Trade Port policies and the province's clean energy island development experience. It was proposed that Hainan and her sister provinces such as Guangdong, Guangxi, and Yunnan could also take advantage of their technological advantages to establish technical exchange platforms and hold technical forums and training courses in order to strengthen cooperation with ASEAN countries.

The first China - ASEAN Clean Energy Week consists of three main activities including the 6th East Asia Summit Clean Energy Forum, the 6th ASEAN+3 Clean Energy Roundtable Dialogue, and China-ASEAN Clean Energy Capacity Building Programme 2023 Exchange Project, along with five themed sub-forums: Provinces' Dialogue, Sustainable Hydropower Development, New Energy & New Technology, Green Investment, and Power Trade and Consumption.
