Hainan's visa-free entry policy deepens ties with central and eastern Europe

Release Time:2024-05-18   Source:HICN

Despite the geographical distance between Hainan Province and Serbia, Hungary, and other central and eastern European countries, close ties have been made through sister province relationships as well as economic, trade, investment and aviation exchanges.

Hainan Province established sister province relationships with Pest Oblast in Hungary in 2016 and Vojvodina Autonomous Province in Serbia in 2019. In 2021, a Serbian international business service station opened in Sanya, becoming the first Chinese government-led organization to serve Serbian enterprises. In 2023, Hainan Airlines resumed direct flights between Beijing and Belgrade.

At the 4th China International Consumer Product Expo, the "China-CEEC Economic and Trade Cooperation Demonstration Zone" and the "CEEC Products Permanent Pavilion" featured wine, food, coffee, crystal, cosmetics, and many more popular products that gave attendees a chance to discover the excellence of central and eastern European products.

Since 2018, Hainan has offered visa-free entry to travelers from 59 different countries, including Serbia and Hungary. On February 9, China’s National Immigration Administration expanded the policy to include additional travel purposes, including business, family visits, medical treatment, exhibitions, sports competitions, and more.

In the future, the economic and cultural exchanges between Hainan and central and eastern Europe will further strengthen the bond between these sister regions, creating more opportunities to form a deep and lasting friendship between their peoples.
